apt Group intensifies measures to reduce CO2 emissions

Monheim, 03.08.2023 – The apt Group is intensifying its measures to reduce CO2 emissions and thus achieve greater sustainability in aluminium processing. Since joining the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) at the end of 2021, the company has taken major steps towards sustainability / C02 reduction: the internationally recognized ASI certification is still expected in the second half of 2023. The certificate attests to the sustainable use of aluminium along the entire value chain. Furthermore, in addition to ecological aspects, it also considers measures in the area of social commitment and governance in the apt Group.

“As an aluminium-processing group of companies in Europe, we have a special responsibility to make our contribution to the European Green Deal,” says Michael Zint, CEO of the apt Group, describing the trend-setting goal. “Society’s acceptance of energy-intensive production will only succeed if companies make it clear that they are operating sustainably of their own accord,” Zint continues.

In addition to processing aluminium, the apt Group also specializes in the production of special parts for the automotive industry. As a responsible company, apt has started to push sustainable management and production on its own initiative in recent years. In 2021, the company had its own carbon footprint determined for the first time. In January 2023, the first voluntary sustainability report was published, covering the key issues and measures taken by the Group in 2021. This transparent sustainability reporting will now be continued and optimized annually.

The company’s emissions are already well below the industry average.

The apt Group has set itself the goal of further reducing emissions with the 1.5°C ambition level and has developed a roadmap for this purpose in collaboration with ClimatePartner. The Munich-based consultancy specializes in supporting the voluntary commitment of business players who are pushing the issue of sustainability. The aim is to continuously reduce CO2 emissions within the framework of a jointly developed climate protection strategy and ultimately even to avoid them consistently. In this context, apt is directly oriented to the international ASI standard.

“Each of our projects is examined for sustainability and, if the targets are met, approved. In the entire area of sustainability, apt strives for industry leadership. We are guided by the requirements of the United Nations’ Agenda 2030 and the European Green Deal,” explains Hubertus Schomacher, Quality Manager and ASI Manager at apt.
