Responsibility for people and the environment

The core features of our sustainability strategy

As an international company, we have a special responsibility towards our employees, but also towards the environment. Only by protecting people and nature can we preserve our livelihoods and pave the way for ecologically and socially responsible production. We are committed to four essential core characteristics. They are part of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations and correspond to the EU’s Green Deal.

Decent work & growth

Promote decent work and sustainable economic growth.

Robust infrastructure & industrialization

Build resilient infrastructure, support broad-based and sustainable industrialization.

Sustainable consumption & production

Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.

Immediate climate measures

Take immediate action to combat climate change and its effects.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Ambitious goals for a better future

ASI-certified commitment to the environment and social responsibility

Sustainability and responsibility are core values of our company. We are proud to have been a member of the Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (ASI) since 2022.

Standards for sustainable aluminum production

The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) is a global organization that promotes responsible production, sourcing and sustainability in the aluminium value chain. In May 2022, the ASI published its revised standards, which cover the entire aluminum value chain. These standards cover the primary production of aluminum (including bauxite mining, alumina refining and aluminum smelting), semi-manufacturing and material conversion processes, recycling and use in end products.

Our certification to the ASI standards reflects our commitment to transparency, environmental protection and social responsibility. We are committed to minimizing the impact of our aluminum production and promoting sustainable practices.

ASI Certification

Our measures for socially responsible production

Everyone has the right to decent, safe and rewarding working conditions. We are committed to this not only at our sites, but along the entire supply chain. That is why we work with strictly selected and certified suppliers whose working conditions meet our high standards. At our sites, we put people first: this means we invest in the qualifications and health of our employees and are committed to a value-oriented corporate culture that is diverse and open to the world.

What distinguishes sustainable aluminum production at apt

With its long service life and optimum suitability for efficient recycling, aluminum is an excellent material for environmentally friendly production. Our efforts are focused on fully exploiting this potential.

Cooperation with certified suppliers

We select our suppliers according to strict criteria and require the necessary certifications. Reducing emissions in particular plays a decisive role here.

Recycling in our own remelting plant

The recycling of technical aluminum scrap requires just 5 percent energy compared to the production of primary aluminum. We recycle up to 18,000 tons of aluminium annually in our remelting plant.

Participation in various organizations

We are committed to sustainable aluminium production by participating in various organizations and committees such as ASI, A|U|F e.V. and Metalle pro Klima. In this way, we are already setting the sustainability standards of tomorrow.

In addition, we have already implemented or planned many other measures. As part of our environmental, energy and quality management, we control – both internally and externally – the sustainable use of the resources we use. Proactive management is part of continuous process improvement.
