Monheim, 10.08.2023 – Since 01.01.2023, the apt Group has been fully powered by green electricity at its two plants in Monheim am Rhein. The company is thus once again pursuing the topic of sustainability in production as a long-term principle of action. This in turn makes a significant contribution to reducingCO2 emissions throughout Germany.
Last year, the two apt plants still purchased an electricity mix from the municipal energy supply company MEGA. The breakdown of energy sources consisted of 54.2% renewable energies, 26.2% natural gas, 14.3% nuclear energy, 4.2% coal and 1.1% other fossil fuels.
For comparison: With a 54.2% share of renewable energy with a guarantee of origin, apt’s two plants in Monheim were already 48.2% above the national average in 2021. According to this, 0.35 kg ofCO2 is emitted per kWh consumed. Thanks to apt’s use of 100% green electricity, 8,750,000 kg lessCO2 will be emitted into the atmosphere each year. This is roughly equivalent to the average consumption of greenhouse gas emissions of 781 German citizens per year (Federal Environment Agency: “average of 11.2 tons ofCO2 greenhouse gas emissions per German citizen per year”)[1]
Certification with proof of origin
The apt Group also participates financially in the non-profit association EnergieVision, which is known for marketing renewable energy produced in Germany. The participation is documented with proof of origin: in this case with the OK-Power seal – Germany’s leading seal of quality for green electricity products. The certification processes on which this seal is based are carried out by MEGA.
