The apt Group has calculated its CO2 footprint for the apt Group for 2021 for the first time. This includes the upstream process of primary aluminum production through the production of aluminum profiles to transport and logistics. TÜV Rheinland confirmed the values. With these values, apt is below the European average, which is necessary for the production of the raw material alone.

Sustainability is on everyone’s lips and is essential for the apt Group. At the end of 2021, the Group joined the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative and launched various projects to advance the issues of economic, environmental and social sustainability.
Michael Zint, CEO of the apt Group: “As an aluminum processing group in Europe, we have a special responsibility to make our contribution to the European Green Deal.”
At our sites, we manufacture aluminium products with a capacity of up to 100,000 tons. The apt Group also operates its own recycling plant and has one of the largest integrated surface treatment facilities in Europe.
The group of companies has a total of six extrusion presses, which are supplied with aluminum billets and then process them into aluminum profiles. This requires a high level of power and energy. The resulting process scrap is recycled internally into new billets. When supplying aluminum ingots, the Group ensures that they are obtained from various sources as sustainably as possible with a low CO2 value. The sites also have their own energy team, which is responsible for identifying potential and saving energy through various projects.
“The measures are paying off,” says Zint. “In comparison within the aluminum industry, our results are two thirds better than the industry average. This includes all process steps – from the manufacture of the raw material, through further production and processing, to transportation to the customer. We even record indirect emissions, such as the commuting of apt employees. For us, aluminum is the material that will make a significant contribution to achieving the necessary climate targets.”
Aluminum – a special material
Aluminum is an all-rounder and is used in a wide variety of areas. Whether window frames, door frames, facades, e-mobility or even in soccer goals – life would be different without aluminum constructions. apt has set its focus on supplying the construction, transportation, automotive and industrial markets. Well-known manufacturers purchase aluminum profiles and aluminum components from apt. Aluminum is stable, easy to clean and sustainable. With only approx. 5% of the energy originally used, it can be recycled forever and processed into new products.
About apt
The apt Group is one of the leading groups of companies in the European aluminum industry. It produces, processes and distributes aluminum profiles and products for the construction, transport, automotive and industrial sectors. With its four production sites, the group is divided into the divisions apt Extrusions (pressing) and apt Products (further processing). It covers the entire value chain – from development, recycling, aluminum extrusion, mechanical processing, surface finishing (anodizing vs. powder coating) to assembly and logistics. With around 1,000 employees, it generates a turnover of approximately 250 million euros per year.
